FOR THE FAMILY
Understanding Family: Developing Self Basics in Bowen Theory DVD Series
Basics in Bowen theory is the longest running Bowen theory seminar in Houston, Texas. The thinking of Murray Bowen continues to inform and inspire the efforts of individuals to better understand their own family, to address challenges through differentiation of self, and to apply systems thinking in all areas of life and work. The most common comment from those who are new to Bowen theory is “Dr. Bowen is talking about my family!” The most common comment from those who have years of study is “I hear something new that applies to my situation every time I watch this tape.”
This evening videotape seminar series will present DVDs chosen to describe and illustrate steps toward differentiation of self and the difference they make in one’s family and life. The specific DVDs will be selected in part based upon the challenges and interests of those who register to attend.
Attendance is limited to the first 8 people who register.
Victoria Harrison will chair this seminar and discussion.

Bowen Theory and Science Seminar Series
Murray Bowen directed students of Bowen Theory to read in the sciences and to read original source material written by scientists. He advocated reading Darwin and knowing facts from evolution, geology, biology, neuroscience, astronomy and physics. Dr. Bowen challenged people to use Bowen theory and the sciences to “Study Something” that required thinking for self and development of new knowledge.
This seminar series aims to perpetuate that challenge and engage people in using Bowen theory and the sciences to develop and pursue directions and interests of their own. Each module will provide readings, websites and video materials based on some aspect of Bowen theory and research in the natural sciences. Participants will be able to choose from among a variety of materials to enhance their knowledge and thinking. Monthly discussions via Zoom will feature reading assignments as well as whatever background study participants elect to do. Participants are encouraged to circulate written essays, comments and questions through a moderated email discussion.
Ann Jones and Victoria Harrison will curate the curriculum for each module based upon research in the natural sciences that began during their study with Murray Bowen in the Postgraduate Program. They will also direct the Discussion Seminar and moderate the email Discussion Thread.
Registration includes reading and resource material, a monthly two-hour seminar via Zoom and a dedicated discussion thread. Additional costs will include books or DVDs you purchase for yourself.. Upon registration, participants will receive an outline of reading and resources that will be discussed in each of 3 monthly Modules, along with questions to guide discussion. They will also receive instructions for posting comments and questions on a discussion thread dedicated to the seminar series. Seminar schedule via Zoom will be determined after registration
